I am currently building up a career as an independent translator, and have used many CAT tools in the past. In the past year, I've used Memsource almost every day, and I can say it helped me hit the ground running and start actively contributing to many projects. Memsource tackles many project management issues inherent to working in the industry, such as budgeting, task distribution, and, of course, translation and proofreading of several texts. The features offered by the product continuously aid teams in assuring the quality of the work provided.
  • Quality assurance.
  • Task distribution + warnings.
  • Analyses
  • Terminology
  • Tags could be automatically arranged, even if not put in order manually.
Memsource is great for beginners and pros alike. The support web pages are very useful for those taking their first steps and the project management dashboard is intuitive and easy to use.

I usually use Memsource through my clients and I have not experienced any serious issue with the product so far. User-friendly, convenient, straightforward. Among my favourite CAT software.
  • Jumping between segments based on segment status.
  • Sharing platform.
  • Clear, essential interface with no unnecessary commands.
  • Suggest possible translations from TM during QA.
  • Performing the QA can be time-consuming because you need to reload frequently.
  • The projects overview homepage can be messy, especially when you have different pending projects for the same client.
Particularly helpful when you have huge files. I've always worked with TMs and TBs provided by clients, so I don't have experience creating them from scratch. But what I like the most about Memsource is that it has a user-friendly interface where you have all you need during translation.

I am a lecturer at Universidad del Rosario's diploma in Specialized translation. Memsource is part of the CAT tools module. My students love the program. They find it very useful and user-friendly. We translate general texts at the beginning of the module and technical text in the second half. The Academic Edition gives us all the features of the program, plus the option of assigning the PM role to some students. Therefore they can use it to prepare to be translators and project managers.
  • Create users with priorities
  • Clear analysis
  • Segmenting documents
  • Showing matches from TM and TB
  • QA
  • More management features like translators' availability or invoicing
  • Link to company website for quotes
  • OCR for PDF files
Well suited for technical texts, contracts, and general texts. Less appropriate as most cat tools for humanistic and artistic texts.

I have been using Memsource for over seven years and across multiple companies, both as a translator and as an editor/proofreader. From the very beginning, I've found the interface to be very intuitive and user-friendly and the entire user experience to be very smooth, with very robust translation memory and term base tools. The ability to transition seamlessly between web-based and desktop editors while collaborating with other translators/proofreaders/project managers is brilliant and a huge time-saver, especially compared to other (much more resource-intensive) solutions in the market. I honestly prefer working on Memsource's lean interface to, say, SDL Trados Studio's very bloated one.
  • Extremely intuitive user interface
  • Robust translation memory and term base tools
  • Seamless transition between web-based and desktop editors
  • The in-context preview feature can be erratic
I've specifically recommended Memsource to project managers looking for a cloud-based solution that enabled them to work with freelancers that didn't require those freelancers to have expensive licenses of their own. It's a very agile solution.

We use Memsource as a CAT tool to improve our localization workflow. We also have a lot of clients that use Memsource and it is really easy to receive projects from them by just sharing our vendor token with them. We then deliver the data within Memsource and no other data exchange is necessary. Memsource is also easy to understand for our translators, and the do not need to own a license themselves. This sometimes seems a big factor for translators to start using a CAT tool. Even though Memsource is a complete CAT tool, we do think there are still some things that can be improved. Features we would like to be added are the usage of REGEX in the web editor, and the option to add Memsource comments to the exported translated Word/Excel files.
  • Easy to use for translators
  • Easy to select TMs and TBs
  • Good interface to keep track of a project
  • Regex in web editor
  • Comments exported in final Word/Excel file
  • Better filtering/sorting of project list
Well suited: Recurring translation projects where using a TM will help lower the cost of translation. Less appropriate: Translation that do not require a 1:1 translation and more transcreation.

I work as a freelance translator and I need to be granted the license by the company so I do not have to spend money on a license while enjoying and experiencing the CAT tool. I use Memsource for translations and it is a very easy and user-friendly and quick tool. Since I started my translation career using Trados Studio and memoQ, it was a first for me to use a web-based tool that is so easy to use and that gives me a great overview.
  • User-friendly
  • Quick start
  • Can be used from all around the world
  • overview of the translation
  • The TB could be more visible
  • Not free if you don't receive a license from client
I think Memsource is well suited for translations and great for beginners since it is quick and easy to use. I can basically work from everywhere around the world, as long as I have an internet connection. This is a great plus! Another big advantage is the search function, which is quite easy to use. The User interface as a whole looks simple and clear. The Preview function is also very helpful since I can directly see how my translation will be presented and re-read it for mistakes. Out of all the CAT tools I have worked with (e. g. Trados Studio, memoQ), I like Memsource the most, since Memsource is just easier to use overall, allowing you to work faster and be more productive. Another benefit is that I can decline a job from the get-go directly on the web surface, without having to inform my client. Furthermore the Instant QA feature helps save time at the end of the translation.

We use Memsource on a daily basis. It's our preferred CAT tool. Memsource helps us a lot to ensure consistency, accuracy, and quality during the translating and editing processes. It also saves time, which for us translators is vital. As it is very simple to use and user-friendly, we did not have problems learning how to use it. I would highly recommend those in the translation industry to consider implementing Memsource as their main tool.
  • Translation memory management
  • Segmentation
  • Search and replacement feature
  • Translators could have access to the source file in the tool.
Memsource is perfect for long projects where a whole team of translators and revisers have to work together. It is very convenient as it saves time and ensures the good quality of the target text. It makes working with terminology really simple, as it is easy to add terms to the translation memory.

I use Memsource on a daily basis to translate and review translations from my colleagues (around 7k words per month). I am a freelancer, so I don't have experience in the project design part, but from my experience as a linguist, Memsource is very user-friendly, and the interface is very intuitive and easy to use.
  • The QA tool it provides is practical and always handy.
  • Instant QA feature can save time at the end of the process.
  • The possibility to decline a job directly from the platform instead of having to contact the client by email.
  • I find the "net rates" (weighted word count) somehow misleading; I have been confused into thinking the project was short, but then it was due to the fact that many similar segments had been counted as fewer words than real (due to their similarity).
  • I would like to have the "lock segments" feature more handy (I know the project creator does, but I, as a linguist sometimes need to forget about a few segments and focus on the rest).
  • I would like to be able to exclude 100% matches from the QA process (when I don't have to check those segments).
I like Memsource because when I am not home and I don't have my laptop, I can borrow a computer, log in to my Memsource account and I'm ready to begin translating. I can even download the source files and check the TM and glossary there. It's not necessary to download the software and lose time on that.

I use Memsource for translation/editing of various kinds of content mainly from English to Japanese, such as Web site, e-learning, user guides, marketing materials, etc.
  • Display of matching TM data..
  • Indication of repetitions and ability to specify as exception.
  • Display of glossary terms.
  • Easy-to-use search function.
  • In the case of EN to JA translation, we enter text and then convert it to get the correct final text (word or phrase) which uses correct Chinese character(s), as there are often multiple Chinese characters with the same reading but different meanings. When those conversion options are displayed, it is usually possible to change our selection among them by hitting the Tab key, but in Memsource, hitting the Tab key makes us leave the text conversion and move to the source segment, so we must make sure to use arrow keys to choose the right conversion option when using Memsource.
  • When there are tag elements used in the source text, the tags must exist in the target text of course, but the tag order also must be the same. The tags cannot be moved around in the segment, which causes problems in the case of the Japanese language, because the word order differs between EN and JA.
  • In the Japanese language, Italics are basically not used, so there must be no texts between the tags which specify Italic font. But then the segment cannot be confirmed and the job status cannot be changed to "Complete".
Memsource is easy to use and I like using it for any type of translation work, but when the source texts contain tags, they tend to generate issues that cannot be solved due to the difference in characteristics between source and target languages, so they bring me headaches. But you cannot know if the source texts contain tags until you open the file and take a look at the contents...

I've been using the free personal edition (it's a shame it's being discontinued) for a few years now as an occasional translator and it massively speeds up translation work. I've used a couple of other CAT tools in the past and Memsource is definitely the most user-friendly. Importing and exporting translation memories or term bases is a breeze, and another big plus is you can access your work wherever you are as long as you have an internet connection.
  • User-friendliness.
  • Cloud based.
  • Translation Memories.
  • Free version discontinued.
Because it's so easy to use, I'd say it's well suited for any situation where you regularly need to make translations.

We use Memsource to store and build our translation database in multiple languages and also assign work to translators directly in this software. The integration is great.
I've personally been using Memsource for almost 3 years now. The learning curve was rather smooth and it has been a pleasant product to use. I'm finding myself constantly learning about various features it offers as i've gotten more and more familiar with it.
  • Capacity to seamlessly store and build translation memories and term bases.
  • Capacity to easily assign projects to various providers.
  • Ease of use and friendly user interface.
  • I'd love to see better filter options in the projects tab. When having 50-100 active projects it can be hard to find specifics.
I'd recommend Memsource to any business dealing in translation work. This software offers both offline and online options for translators. It has a friendly user interface and is easy to pick up and learn.

Memsource is a very intuitive tool that I use for translations. AI helps a lot, is very easy to use, and minimal training is required. Smart revisions for quick and last-minute changes to the original document. Pre-translate documents based on various databases. Well-designed and user-friendly. The system lets you manage translation memories from old projects and also helps you create new translations.
  • Easy to learn.
  • Suggest partially translations for the TM.
  • Term Base.
  • Does not handle well tags in the translations.
The client delivers the text without filtering the online tags for some eLearning products, primarily webpage-generated eLearning, and Memsource may have a mechanism to filter the web tags for the actual translation, for instance.

I use Memsource in order to translate different kind of texts such as videogames and perform LQA Testing. The best problem it solves is the fact that you can work online in the cloud. You do not need to download anything and you got everthing safe and always stored, which is appreciated so you cannot lose any progress if something fails.
  • user friendly UI
  • very used among most of the companies
  • enhances productivity
  • difficult to understand the several options for different files extensions
  • real time file update when working with more people in the same project
Is well suited for videogames with several strings. It allows you to focus in each string separately and look for tags cautiously. Also, the shortcuts are really useful for games translation. Doing LQA Testing is also easy and it shows you clearly the errors in the segments, so you can fix them asap. In other translation ambits such as literary, it is not very appropiate.

Memsource is easy for linguists but not so much for project management. I find it difficult to complete the files in a bulk or confirm segments in a given step so translations are saved in the TM. We are also facing multiple problems with activating users from assignment window--Memsource support says it should go active automatically but we need to activate them from Users tab often instead.
  • Filtering segments
  • TM analysis
  • users activation
  • confirming segments in a bulk for various languages in PM view
I like the advanced filters in editing view and also analyzing word counts is fast and effective. It really makes my job more difficult if we need to open every single language separately and confirm the segments in editor, instead of doing it from the main site. Also users are not active if there is no file assigned to them--trouble starts when you want to assign the task to them and they cannot be picked from a drop down.

I use Memsource in my day to day translation tasks. We translate product listings, legal documents, ads, marketing materials, T&Cs, landing pages, etc. We are aiming at supporting a multilingual experience for our customers to provide a smooth E-shopping experience and Memsource definitely aids in making this process more efficient and time saving.
  • Translation Memories to keep record of previous translation work
  • Detailed analysis
  • Machine translation engines
  • Easy UI
  • The ability to find/replace a certain word in translation memory or term base without having to export
  • Unlimited machine translation characters for high volume jobs
  • Segments with big content tend to lag sometimes, which forces me to do the translation offline (in Word) then copy/paste it into the segment. This is the most major point for me which I hope can be fixed soon.
It happened many times where I was requested to translate some material urgently, after the relevant team made some changes to the translation I provided already. Memsource Translation Memory came in handy where it detected exactly where the changes were, which saved me a ton of time, as I just made the necessary edits rather than translating from scratch. Also, in my day to day translation, I come across a lot of repeated content. Memsource detects this content and confirms it automatically in all segments so I don't have to go through it again.

We are using Memsource for project stage management of localization projects. It is really a great tool to collaborate with different stakeholders across the globe, especially when you have different people operating in different roles. This tool has helped us to deliver in a fast-paced environment with a reduced turnaround time for localization projects. I feel this is really user-friendly and would love to promote it if I get an opportunity to do so.
  • Collaboration
  • Project Management
  • File management
  • Colors on progress bars
  • Project sorting according to languages
Memsource is well suited for the management of Localization projects I have not used this tool for managing another type of projects so this would be hard for me to describe where this tool is less appropriate

I use Memsource as a freelance translator for larger companies, such as Booking.com. The platform is intuitive, user-friendly, and practical to use. The comments posted by the client are easy to find and the LQA test is easy to manage and use. Although the way jobs are posted by the client is not always available as you have to elbow your way into other peers to get a task assigned, it is a modern, reliable CAT tool that I recommend junior professionals to use.
  • Translation memories
  • Machine Translation
  • LQA
  • References
  • Job offers.
  • Quality of machine translations.
I believe Memsource is well suited for fast-paced work scenarios with a number of professionals working on the same project. It is good for fostering communication between clients and service providers, with intuitive access to LQA and feedback. The only downside I noted is the lack of a progress bar for translators to see the progress of their work in a given task. I strongly recommend Memsource CAT tool.

Memsource is my preferred CAT tool because it is user-friendly and speeds up my work as a translator. Filtering segments is very easy.
On the other hand, it is hard to keep track of my progress when there are many locked segments as those are included in the word count progress.
  • Filtering segments.
  • QA results can be filtered by type so you don't waste time with false positive errors.
  • Exporting bilingual documents.
  • How to keep track of progress when there are many locked segments in the file.
I think Memsource is suited for all scenarios when the Preview section is available.

Memsource allows me to analyze translation source files in any format and gives a clear indication of the work involved. It also helps me save time by reusing translations and by suggesting the right words while I am translating each sentence. In addition, when I work for clients, I can easily use the same interface I am familiar with. During that time, it also shows the client's style guide which helps me maintain the same tone. Another excellent feature I love about Memsource is its QA. It spots some common errors and also helps in automatically fixing them. Overall, I love using Memsource and would recommend it to freelance translators.
  • Supporting Multiple File Formats.
  • Saving time by reusing translations.
  • Quality Assurance Checks.
  • When using Tamil Unicode, sometimes the letters are not shown properly and typing is also difficult.
  • Offline translation (DOCX) is little confusing and difficult.
  • Machine Translation for Tamil can be better.
It is very appropriate for the translation of files in various formats. Whether you are an individual translator or part of a team, this can be used comfortably and you can track the progress easily. It is not very appropriate for any creative work (that is, it always expects a source and a target.)

We have been using Memsource for many years, not as a personal choice I must say but rather as a tool requested by some of our clients. It is certainly a very intuitive tool that one can start using literally within minutes (more so than other online tools of this kind). What I believe it lacks is some more personalization, for instance for those linguists who like to speed up work by using keyboard shortcuts. Another critical issue, at least in our experience, is that it does not encourage advanced users who employ it to set up large projects to do it in a way that can accelerate the all-important QA process, which is often too long and not at all conducive to an improvement of the final product. A few adjustments to improve this final stage would be very welcome.
  • Filters
  • Segment saving time.
  • QA
  • Keyboard shortcuts/Personalization.
Well suited to a short text, less well suited to large, technical projects, where termbases are very important.

I have been using Memsource for a number of years and it never failed me. It helped me grow my business and clients were very happy with the output. It is easy to use and it is innovative. It is user-friendly and the features are great. Definitely one of the best CAT I've used.
  • Add terms and phrases.
  • Remembers similar translations of words and terms.
  • Interface is easy to understand.
  • I can't really think of anything.
It is very user-friendly and affordable. If you are still starting out in the translation industry, I would advise using this online tool. It is very convenient to use as well. As it is an online tool, I can use a different machine or log in to another computer while traveling.

I use Memsource as a translator and it offers all the useful features I need to use and search TMs for instance. The editing tools can be quite handy too. The QA feature is also very helpful and user-friendly. I can also search the project management tab to find previous projects and jobs if needed.
  • Search TMs for terms
  • QA
  • Filters
  • Download TMs
  • Preview of documents
Memsource is particularly well suited for translating documents with repetitions and fuzzy matches, not so useful when translating documents with little to no repetitions or matches, although it can help with consistency when using the filters to search how a term was previously translated and to make sure the translation is consistent by using the same translation for the same source term, when appropriate.

We use Memsource for 2 main functions. The system lets us manage our translation memories from old projects and also help us create new translations for the Portuguese language that will be used in eLearning products worldwide.
  • Manage Translation Memories
  • Integrate with Translation Machines
  • Suggest partially translations for the TM
  • The price option for small translation teams for 2 or 3 translators could be a separate plan
  • I think it does not handle well tags in the translations
  • It could have a filter to remove tags for making it easy to translate
We love Memsource to translate PDF manuals. It makes it so easy to do so using its integration with a pdf translation site and it works very well. For translating some eLearning products mainly webpage generated eLearning something the client sends the text and does not filter the web tags and Memsource could have a function to filter the tags for the real translation for example.

Memsource is one of the leading products used by the translation agency for which I do freelance work. The agency needs a wide range of translations from massive Government documents to short advertising copy, and working with a wide range of freelancers needs a product that isn't too difficult to learn.
  • Easy to learn - I was working with it within half an hour
  • Familiar approach for translators used to other products like XTM
  • Clear and intuitive
  • It's not easy to find a reference manual on their marketing-heavy website - videos yes, but I found checking a specific point (e.g. "how do I copy a source segment to the target") hard to do
It's a good straightforward package, well-suited to everyday translation. It doesn't (so far as I know) offer a wealth of reference libraries and terminology databases as some products do.
